We sometimes get asked, “Why do you call your open mics ‘No Bad Mics’? You can’t seriously think they’ll be good?!?” There are a plethora of factors regarding what makes a mic “good”. Some of them are completely out of control of the people who run the venue. However, we can control the setting of the room which we find helps alleviate any bad vibes that are in it. State laws prohibit us from burning sage and incense to cleanse the room of bad vibes, but we have other tools at our disposal.

Have you ever been to an open mic in a black box theater in LA during a heatwave and there’s no A/C? It can be a miserable experience. The A/C at Best Comedy Club Near Me Theater (BCCNMT) blows cold all year long! You might have to take that old cardigan sweater that Pop Pop bequeathed to you out of storage for our mics!
How often are you at mics in well lit rooms that feel nothing like performing in a club environment? BCCNMT was designed to be dark. As long as the curtains are fully closed in our daytime mics there isn’t any sunlight in the room. It’s not uncommon for comics who perform in consecutive daytime mics to forget that it’s actually the middle of the afternoon when they go back outside into the sunlight!
How often do you find yourself losing out on time because most mics start and end on the hour and you have to spend an hour between two mics you are going to? This is all too common. While we can’t do anything to fix LA traffic, we start our mics on the half hour. This allows for comics who are at a mic that’s roughly 20-30 minutes drive from BCCNMT to not lose out on their time in between mics. If you are at a mic that ends at 6pm you’ll have 30 minutes to make our 6:30pm mic!
How often do you find yourself performing at a mic with comics that are spread out all over the room and hiding in the back? The room at BCCNMT is set up with only two rows of 12 chairs. By limiting the number of chairs and keeping them close to the stage we allow for comics to perform in a more intimate space.
How often do you find yourself high tailing it to Starbucks before a mic, because you dare not use the bathroom at the mic venue? The bathrooms at BCCNMT are clean. Just give us the Golden Plunger Award for the cleanest bathroom in the LA comedy scene already will you Comedy Bureau!
Good vibes are what we are about for our mics. We want the comics that grace our stage to perform well and crush, but we understand that there’s a process and we all go through growing pains on the stage.
What we don’t want is people leaving our mics and hating their life afterwards.
